The 5th Annual Blessing of the Fleet took place on Palm Sunday, April 13. The Rev. Michael Hughes of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Parish officiated the event.

This centuries old blessing is believed to have originated in the Mediterranean fishing fleets.

“We get together every year, this is our fifth blessing the boats,” JoAn Easler said. “Last year we even had a few kayaks participate.”

About a dozen boats passed by the dock at the end of Porto Bello Street as the Rev. Michael sprinkled holy water on each boat offering a blessing.
