The Beacon of H.O.P.E is seeking volunteers for their Summer Camp program held at the Pine Island Elementary School from June 9 through July 31.

Volunteers can determine how much or how little time they would like to participate each week as well as the hours each day. The camp is four days a week and never longer than three to four hours.

“This is our third year of summer camp and everyone has a gift or a talent that they can share with children,” Rebecca Rose, event coordinator, said. “From musicians playing piano or guitar, to story tellers, to artists, to gardeners, to fishermen. Football and baseball players that just play catch with a child can make a difference. Volunteers can be a chaperone for field trips or just spending a few hours a week sharing a laugh, a kind word, and an ice cream sandwich with child.”

The summer camp program is free to a limited number of Pine Island children in grades from 2nd to 5th.

A variety of enrichment programs are provided, including science, robotics, a variety of creative arts, literacy, access to computers, math enrichment, theater, music, gardening and field trips. A nutritious meal is also provided each day.

All volunteers must complete a background screening at the Beacon of H.O.P.E. Teenagers are also welcome to volunteer with us at summer camp, per background screening and an interview, for acquiring community service hours.

Please contact Rebecca Rose at 239-283-5123 for questions and further information.
