Meyer to discuss bromeliads at Garden Club meeting
The Pine Island Garden Club will feature Barbara Meyer speaker for the Feb. 20 meeting. Meyer’s professional career involved working for several major airlines and being a travel consultant for American Express.
Since moving to Cape Coral 13 years ago, she has been busy maintaining the well-established plantings around her home, de-turfing her property and adding more Florida friendly plant matter. She enjoys participating in many activities associated with being in the Master Gardener program, volunteering as a public speaker on several subjects and is active in the Florida Yards program. She also enjoys being a “helper” at the horticulture desk at the IFAS Extension.
At the meeting, Meyer will be sharing her knowledge of bromeliads.
The Garden Club Gala will be held Feb. 22, at Garden Club Park, at the Island Center. There will be demonstrations during the day, plant and tree vendors selling inventory, local authors signing and selling their books, a fantastic “white elephant sale” and many raffle prizes given away during the entire gala. Raffle tickets are now on sale from Garden Club members and at the Winn-Dixie on Stringfellow Road.
Monthly Garden Club meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at the Fishers of Men Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10360 Stringfellow Road, and begin at 9 a.m. with coffee and refreshments followed by our guest speaker’s presentation and finishing up with a brief member’s business meeting.
Club meetings are free and open to everyone. If you are interested in attending a meeting or becoming a member (annual dues are $20), please call Kathie Reiter, Membership Chairman, at 283-3176.
