The trip to Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki will include a guided tour along the boardwalk through a cypress dome in part of the Big Cypress Swamp. Photo provided

Join the Museum of the Islands and the Saint James City Civic Association for a field trip to Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki, the Seminole Museum in Clewiston Tuesday, Feb. 4. Using a comfortable motor coach, SJCCA and MOTI members will be provided with an easy means to visit the museum for a guided tour that is approximately one mile long. On the Boardwalk, we will wind through a cypress dome (part of the Big Cypress Swamp) as we learn about Seminole culture. This offers great opportunities for taking photos.

The group will stop at the Clans Pavilion to learn about current Seminole clans. From there the group will go to the recreated ceremonial grounds and then to Seminole Village where traditional arts and crafts may be demonstrated if village members are present.

Bring your camera (no flash) and some bug repellent. The Boardwalk and museum are accessible for wheelchair use. The bus has steps.

The trip will be held rain or shine. The bus leaves the SJCCA at 10 a.m., and then MOTI at 10:30 a.m. On the return trip, the bus will arrive at MOTI at approximately 5 p.m., and the SJCCA at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The fee is $50, which includes bus fare, box lunch, and museum entrance fee.

The registration deadline is Jan. 23. A completed registration form with payment must be received by that date. A minimum of 40 participants is required for the trip to be held.
