VFW Ladies Auxiliary name coloring contest winners
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Greater Pine Island Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4353 held its annual coloring contest entitled the “Americanism Coloring Contest” at Pine Island Elementary School. The winners were presented with a plaque on Tuesday.
The contest is a nationwide program of the VFW. All materials were provided to the school including the pictures. The coloring contest is broken down into four categories: Liberty Bell coloring contest for Kindergarteners and 1st graders, Liberty Bell with the words written on the bell for 2nd graders, First U.S. Flag and Drummer coloring contest for 3rd and 4th graders, and the Rosie the Riveter “We Can Do It” poster coloring and a short essay for 5th graders. The winners were selected at a series of VFW meetings.
“I want to thank every student who participated,” Joyce Lake said. “All of the entries were so good we had a hard time selecting the winners.” Commander Keith Keefer presented each winning student with their plaque and thanked them for participating in the contest.

3rd Place: Juan Manuel Gonzalez
“The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW likes to promote Americanism in the schools,” Lake said. “This year it was about the Liberty Bell, the First American flag and Rosie the Riveter “We Can Do It” poster. All of the kids did a great job.”
