Strawberry Fields Forever: Remembering John Lennon
Iconic musician John Lennon’s life will be celebrated at Lovegrove Gallery & Gardens, 4637 Pine Island Rd. NW, Matlacha Island, Florida on Sunday, December 8 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This Dec 8 marks the 33rd anniversary of Lennon’s murder in New York City. Leoma Lovegrove will host SW Florida musician Jim Tucke in a tribute performance, Strawberry Fields Forever: Remembering John Lennon. Tucke will recreate the Lennon/Beatles experience in both costume and song. If you were to ask Tucke’s mother, she’d tell you that it’s not surprising that her son is recreating Lennon’s portfolio of songs. As a youngster, it was Ringo Star that Jim emulated, banging incessantly on his mother’s pots and pans without mercy for the cookware or his family’s ears. Finally, his mother gave in and bought her son a drum set, and a drummer was born. But Jim went on to learn piano and now he combines drums, piano and vocals simultaneously in a solo act that he has taken around Southwest Florida for years.
“Lennon’s lyrics played to the times with classics such as “Give Peace a Chance” and “Imagine,” Lovegrove said. “But he also touched hearts with the likes of “All You Need Is Love.” His music has inspired my paintings for years. This will be the twelfth tribute we have given on Matlacha Island celebrating Lennon’s life with song and paintings.”
Lovegrove has numerous Beatle-themed art works that make it possible to take a little bit of Liverpool home. Arrive by boat or car, enjoy Strawberries & Cream and feel free to sing along. The event is free.
