On Tuesday students from Tina Garris’ 5th grade class at Pine Island Elementary School presented Dave Grueser, president of Pine Island Food Pantry, with 928 canned foods for the Food Pantry.
“This is truly a remarkable effort and these kids do this every year,” Grueser said. “And I can tell you all of us at the Food Pantry appreciate all of the hard work these children put into this.”
Supplies at the food pantry often run low and it’s frequently at the times when the need is greater. “Last week we had a record number of families and this is like a gift from heaven,” Grueser said. “I can tell you that the need is greater now than it was just a few weeks ago.”
“I’d like to thank Tina and all of the fifth graders with this certificate,” Grueser said. “This certificate says “From the Board of Directors, Pine Island Food Pantry, Certificate of Appreciation Presented to Tina Garris and 5th Grade Students. For their continued Support of the Pine Island Food Pantry.”
After returning to the Food Pantry with the food Dave Grueser reported that the total weight of the donation was 827 pounds!!!

The pantry, an equal opportunity organization, serves residents of Pine Island and Matlacha. The Food Pantry is open Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., closed on holidays.
