Matlacha Bridge Reef Project Holiday Party today
The Matlacha Bridge Reef Project will be having a holiday celebration today, Dec. 11, from 6-8 p.m., at the Tarpon Lodge in Bokeelia.
Come join the group for an old-fashioned cocktail and hors d’oeuvres party!
Tickets are $50 per person and include an array of holiday appetizers and special holiday cocktails. There will be a silent auction and several raffles.
The event will also include the debut of the film featuring the first dive down to the new reef site.
The Matlacha Bridge Reef Project is a non-profit organization formed in July 2012 with the dream of preserving a piece of history by turning the “fishingest bridge in the world” into the “fishingest reef in the world.”
Over a period of six months, funds were raised through this grass roots effort and nearly 500 tons of debris were transported to the southernmost point of Novak Reef; which has been re-named The Matlacha Bridge Reef.
In the final hours of fund-raising efforts, an angel stepped forward and covered the cost of an additional barge for the project.
The proceeds from the benefit will be used to reimburse the generosity of that individual.
