On Thursday, new Pine Island Elementary School physical education teacher Julie Whitt came up with a creative learning experience in the form of unique physical exercise for her students.

Instead of the same old techniques, she implemented new games especially for the Fall Festival: Pumpkin Pitch, Scooter Obstacle Course, Ghost Busters Bowling and Pie on the Principal.

Whitt, formerly a “classroom” teacher, became the P.E. teacher this year.

“Ms. Whitt taught fifth grade for at least six years here. When my P.E. teacher left last year to go to another school, I knew Ms. Whitt had certification and she asked for the opportunity to teach Phys. Ed. And I have to say she’s been amazing,” Principal Rob Mazzoli said.

The students especially enjoyed the “Pie on the Principal” game where they had an opportunity to throw a cream pie at Mazzoli.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our parents/teacher association and all the people out there today and volunteering behind the scenes,” Whitt said. “I’d like to thank everyone for all they put into making this a success for the children.”
