Pine Island Elks hold Drug Awareness Day
Last Saturday, the Pine Island Elks held a Drug Awareness Day event at the lodge.
Children from the area enjoyed face painting, a bounce house and hot dogs.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was also on hand for child fingerprinting and a K-9 demonstration was held.
Drug Awareness Day is held every year to teach the kids how dangerous drugs and alcohol can be. Informational flyers were handed out to all the kids.
The Elks have been conducting a drug awareness program since 1982. By partnering with federal, state and local agencies, the Elks have developed one of the largest volunteer drug awareness programs in the country.
The Elks are committed to eliminating the use and abuse of illegal drugs by all members of society and believe that in order to ensure a bright future for our country, it is essential that our children be raised in a drug-free environment.
