Auditions begin for ‘A Christmas Carol’ at Beacon of H.O.P.E.
Nichole Pichon, Pine Island Playhouse coordinator, said last week that, “Auditions for the play ‘A Christmas Carol’ will be held Nov. 4 and 5 at the Beacon of H.O.P.E. from 7-9 pm. All ages are welcome to audition and do not need to prepare anything.”
This will be the second play from Pine Island Playhouse. The first, “Little Women,” was performed before a packed house at last month.
One Pine Island Eagle letter writer said, “If you missed the Pine Island Playhouse presentation of ‘Little Women,’ you missed a very special event on Pine Island. Nichole Pichon’s cast and crew did an amazing job putting on this two-hour production. What more can I say. I only hope there will be many more productions in the future.”
“A Christmas Carol” is probably the most well known Christmas play. It is a novella written by Charles Dickens in 1843. Dickens wrote at the time, “I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. Their faithful Friend and Servant, C. D. December, 1843.”
The novella met with instant success and critical acclaim.
For the auditions each person will be asked to perform a piece from the play that Pichon will supply.
According to Pichon, the play follows Dickens’ original play very closely and will include all of the iconic characters. There are approximately 30 characters in the production and Pichon would love to see the community come out and participate.
Rehearsals will be held during the week from 7-9 pm.
The tentative dates for the show are Dec. 20 and 21.

“I’m very excited to get this one started because it’s such a popular story,” Pichon said. “I’ve already begun building costumes and have designed the set.”
Pichon will also be offering acting classes starting Nov. 5, from 5:307 p.m.
“The classes will be at the Beacon of H.O.P.E. every Tuesday and Thursday,” Pichon said.
