Stonegate Bank, Beacon of H.O.P.E. collecting supplies for Oklahoma tornado victims
Stonegate Bank is partnering with the Beacon of H.O.P.E. to collect supplies for the victims of the tornado that took place Monday, May 20 in Moore, OK.
Beacon of H.O.P.E. Students Achieving Success Coordinator Rebecca Rose said they are collecting towels, wash cloths and bath soaps to assemble into hygiene kits to be sent to UMCOR. In addition, individuals can donate flat combs, flat nail files and toothbrushes, which will also be included in the kits as well.
Rose said they wanted to include items that everyone who wants to donate can afford.
“Everyone on the island can contribute something, just a small thing we can all do to help,” she said.
Rose said 100 percent of the donations will immediately be sent to the ground relief that is taking place for the victims.
Collections began on Tuesday, May 21 and will run until Tuesday, June 4.
“We are only collecting things for two weeks,” Rose said. “We want to get the stuff out there as soon as possible.”
Items, as well as monetary donations, can be dropped off at Stonegate Bank, Beacon of H.O.P.E. and the Pine Island United Methodist Church.
“If someone wants to write a check, we will include that in the box,” Rose said, adding that it will go directly to the emergency relief.
The Pine Island youth will assemble the kits and get them packed to be sent to Oklahoma, she said.
“I think it’s wonderful that the Pine Island youth agreed to help pack these up and help give back to the community,” she said.
