MEGHAN McCOY The 3,000 ducks, which are cleaned and accounted for, are ready for the March 2 Great Calusa Rubber Duck Race. Tickets are on sale now.

The ducks have been cleaned, brightened and accounted for and are ready for the Great Calusa Rubber Duck Race March 2.

Pink Wesorick said, unfortunately some rubber ducks did die, but they purchased some new babies that are ready for the race.

Every year members of the Calusa Land Trust gather for one day to count all 3,000 ducks to get them ready for the race. That task, which took more than three hours, was completed last week.

“They have all been cleaned up, all bright and ready to go,” Wesorick said. “All numbers are accounted for.”

Tickets are $5 per duck and can be purchased at Woody’s Waterside Pub in St. James City, or by calling Wesorick at 283-7249 or Ken Pleat at 615-562-0052. Members of Calusa Land Trust will also be selling tickets at Winn-Dixie. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.calusalandtrust.org through Pay Pal.

The Duck Race will kick off around 4 p.m., Saturday, March 2 at Woody’s Waterside Pub.

The money raised during the race will benefit The Calusa Land Trust.
