P.I. ‘Five O’ participants lose 53 pounds at SJCCA

2 min read

In honor of The Saint James City Civic Association 50th anniversary, P.I. “Five O” participants lost more than 50 pounds during January 2013. The sixteen P. I. “Five 0”-ers celebrate “Minus Fifties” with mock-tails following the weigh-in.

“Each participant leads his or her own life style choice,” said Jodee McCollum, exercise instructor at SJCCA. “Two members of “P.I. ‘Five 0’ are committed users of the Mediterranean diet for the rest of their lives, and we have a vegetarian who makes interesting smoothies for us. Many of our folks have just increased their exercise levels throughout the day, and at least four members are using “My Fitness Pal” apps to keep track of their food intake and exercise expenditures on I-phones or computers.”

Friday weigh-ins from 10:30 to 11 a.m. are followed by a thirty-minute meeting. P. I. “Five O”-ers exchange recipes; helpful exercise and diet tips; and provide mutual encouragement for a healthier life style.

“You can become part of P.I. ‘Five O’ whether you exercise not,” McCollum said. “You pay $5 to join in and $1 per weigh-in. Basically we’re just covering the cost to make copies of recipes.”

Exercise class meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 8:30 a.m. at the SJCCA center on 5th and Lemon. Classes are open to the public, welcome drop-ins, and include men and women of all ages. SJCCA members receive discounts. Call Jodee at 283-4790 for information.
