MEGHAN McCOY After a fire was ignited on the northwest corner of Maria Drive and Stringfellow Road, local law enforcment officers helped in blocking off the road, so the fire department could put out the one-acre brush fire.

A brush fire was put out Saturday afternoon in a timely manner in St. James City.

Pine Island Fire Deputy Chief Joe Marzella said a power line came down on the northwest corner of Maria Drive and Stringfellow Road causing a fire around noon on Saturday.

Eight trucks and 10 firefighters, including a crew from the Cape Coral Fire Department, battled the one-acre brush fire. Marzella said Cape Coral came and backed up the island units.

“Everything is fine,” Marzella said around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. “All is well.”

LCEC Public Relations Manager Karen Ryan that the power outage occurred at 12:15 p.m. and was restored by 1 p.m. Saturday. She said approximately 2,400 customers were impacted.

Although there is no known cause at this time, Ryan said it was rather windy, so it could have been a tree contact, but she did not have confirmation of that Saturday afternoon.
