Pine Island, Matlacha CERT fund-raiser theater tickets
The Pine Island-Matlacha Community Emergency Response Team is going to raise operating funds by selling tickets to the play Annie to be played at the Cultural Park Theater, 528 Cultural Park Blvd., Cape Coral, on Friday, March 22 at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $25 each and CERT will earn $5 for each ticket sold.
Annie is a story of a girl abused by the orphanage matron, and Annie, a spunky orphan, decides to run away and find her parents. Billionaire Oliver Warbucks, at the same time, decides to invite an orphan over to his house for Christmas and Annie is chosen. He later tries to help Annie find her parents by putting up a $50,000 reward. Rooster and his girlfriend, Lilly, pretend to be Annie’s parents in order to get the reward. In the end, Hannigan, Rooster, and Lilly are all arrested and parentless Annie is adopted by Warbucks.
Tickets can be obtained by calling the following CERT members; St. James City, call Debb, 283-7890, Bokeelia, call Julie, 283-8006 or Matlacha, call Marsha, 558-5168.
The funds obtained from the sale of the Annie tickets will be used by CERT teams in the event of a call-up, equipment for new members, and training events, when needed. CERT receives no other funding.
For those who don’t know, Pine Islands’ “Community Emergency Response Team” is a unit consisting of Pine Islanders trained to respond to emergency situations and assist safety forces in helping fellow Pine Islanders as conditions dictate, such as in hurricanes, plane crashes, fires, and any other situation where additional emergency personnel are needed. CERT members respond in uniform only when activated by the fire chief and will act only on his orders and those of team leaders on the scene. All CERT members are volunteers and receive no compensation. They meet and train regularly.
CERT members are trained in fire fighting, traffic control, search and rescue, first aid, and triage. If you would like to help your fellow islanders and assist safety forces in times of emergency, you can join CERT by coming to Fire Station #1 at the Center, and pick up a application. You will be assigned to a team, issued a uniform, equipment bag, Participant Manual, ID card, a sticker for your car, and participate in training sessions. Your help will be much appreciated should an emergency occur.
