Annual Rhythm and Rummage Sale to raise funds for museum
The annual Rhythm and Rummage Sale, as well as a big breakfast will be held next month at the St. James Civic Association to raise funds for Museum of the Islands and the association.
Sharon Traylor, president of MOTI, said they have held the Rhythm and Rummage Sale for more than 20 years. She said the event raises anywhere from $1,200 to $1,800 for the museum every year, which goes toward their operating expenses.
“Everything we do is from our fund-raisers, memberships and out gift shops,” Traylor said.
The St. James Civic Association Big Breakfast, which includes sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, special dishes and beverages, will be served from 8-10 a.m. on Feb. 9. The breakfast is all you can eat for $6.
The proceeds from the big breakfast will benefit the St. James Civic Association.
The annual Rhythm and Rummage Sale will be held from 8 a.m. until noon on the same day with all proceeds benefiting MOTI.
“The community will be supporting two island organizations,” Traylor said.
The sale will include trinkets, kitchen implements, cloth goods, dishes, decorative items, tools, records, books and more.
Traylor asks that the community go through their treasures and donate what they no longer want to MOTI to sell at the sale. She said individuals can drop off items at the St. James Civic Association on Friday, Feb. 8, between 8 a.m. and noon.
Individuals can also drop off small items at MOTI during their regular business hours.
The sale will also include a bake sale.
Traylor said the drawing for the gift basket will also be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at noon. She said they have been selling tickets since before Christmas.
Traylor said the basket is probably worth $350 due to gift certificates from Winn-Dixie and Publix, camping equipment, Tervis tumblers, restaurant gift certificates, among other things.
Tickets are available for one for $1 or six for $5.
Music will also fill the air courtesy of Frank Tuma.
“They can come and have breakfast, shop and listen to live music all at the same place,” Traylor said of the event.
