The Pine Island Elementary School Eagle Choir performed a few holiday favorites during the annual Winter Musical in the courtyard Monday, Dec. 17.

The students put on a special performance last Monday for their friends and family during the annual Winter Musical at Pine Island Elementary School.

Before the kids performed, Principal Rob Mazzoli asked those in attendance for a moment of silence for the families and community of Newtown, Conn.

Many parents and grandparents had their cameras pointed at the bleachers that were set up in the courtyard to take pictures of the youngsters as they took stage to perform a variety of Christmas carols.

Mazzoli told the parents that this is always an exciting part of the year for the students, due to it being the holiday season.

“We are having fun with the kids,” he said of the many activities that have been scheduled for the youngsters.

The band performed a few songs, which was followed by the Eagle Choir signing some Christmas carols. Each grade level then took the stage to perform a few songs throughout the Winter Musical.

“I know you are in for a treat tonight,” Mazzoli said. “You are in for a treat of some wonderful holiday songs.”

Music teacher Gwendelyn Fristensky told the crowd that Pine Island is the best community, because of the support it gives the school.

“I see more and more faces every year,” she said of those in the crowd, who stood close to the back of the courtyard. “That’s awesome.”
