Matlacha Chamber decorates main tree for Edison Holiday Nights
The Matlacha Island Chamber of Commerce decorated this year’s main tree for the Edison & Ford Holiday Nights. Chris Pendleton, CEO and President of the Edison & Ford Winter Estates invited the newly formed chamber to decorate the 18′ tree.
“What an honor to be asked,” said Matlacha Chamber president, Leoma Lovegrove. “Our chamber created as many crab floats and paint brushes to represent Matlacha Island.”
The description plaque in front of Matlacha Chamber tree reads: “Matlacha Chamber of Commerce, Fishing floats co-exist with paint brushes in the tiny island village of Matlacha which has no electricity until 1941. The fishing bridge was competed in 1968 and anglers still line it end to end when the tide is in. Shrimp boats, art galleries, fishermen and restaurateurs who prepare the catch are all part of the color of this historic village island.”
Twenty thousand visitors will see the tree this year during the month long event at the estates.
