Local group helps with Wreaths Across America ceremony

Every site at Sarasota National Cemetery was covered with a wreath this year during the Wreaths Across America ceremony Dec. 15.
“I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of the fund-raising groups who have supported us throughout 2012 and helped us make this one of our most successful years to date,” Pine Island VFW Auxiliary Treasurer Jill Davidson said. “With your hard work and dedication, Wreaths Across America and our vast network of groups, location leaders and volunteers placed 420,000 wreaths on veterans graves and honored them with the gift of remembrance at over 825 participating locations this past Dec. 15, 2012.”
Eight individuals from Lee County traveled to Sarasota on Dec. 15 to help lay the wreaths on the gravesites before the ceremony was performed at 11:30 a.m.
“All sites at Sarasota National Cemetery were covered this year,” Davidson said, which included 5,222 wreaths.
