Kiwanis helps Beacon of H.O.P.E. reach fund-raising goal
An island club helped another organization fulfill its goal of helping those on the island last week with a monetary donation.
Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island President Tonya Player donated $1,000 to the Beacon of H.O.P.E. Wednesday morning.
“It thrills us that the money we give you touches many lives,” she said to Beacon Board of Director President Elsie Stearns.
The money donated was raised from the Kiwanis Tervis Tumbler sales during the Holiday House of H.O.P.E. at the Tarpon Lodge.
“It is a great event, glad to help,” Player said of the Holiday House.
Stearns said the Beacon and Kiwanis mesh well because they have common goals. She said in the past two years, the Kiwanis have donated more than $33,000 to the Beacon.
“The benefit is we have common goals with the Kiwanis and it benefits the community,” Stearns said.
The four-day Holiday House of H.O.P.E. event, Stearns said raised between $13,000-$14,000 for the Beacon of H.O.P.E.
