Anti-fluoride group protests outside GPIWA building
Twenty people gathered in front of the Greater Pine Island Water Association building Friday afternoon with signs encouraging people to vote no on the fluoride ballots that are due this week.
Fran Wolford, secretary of Citizens for Safe Water, said the group stood in front of the building hoping to encourage islanders to help prevent fluoride from being added to the drinking water.
“We are doing anything we can to stop it from being put in the water,” she said.
Jack Mills, a member of Citizens for Safe Water, said Friday was the third time they have picketed outside of the building since the group has formed.
He said it was important to stand outside with signs encouraging people to vote no on fluoride because there still may be a couple people out there that have not made their mind up.
Mills encourages individuals to visit the group’s website www.citizensforsafewater.org for more information.
The ballot must be returned to the GPIWA no later than Dec. 6 by 3 p.m. In order for the ballot to be counted, it must be signed by a member on record as listed on the attached mailing label.
The ballot can only be signed by one member of the household.
