VFW Flag Ceremony

A flag ceremony was held at the center Sunday afternoon to include a POW/MIA flag on the flagpole that already held an American flag. VFW Commander Paul Birdwell said during the ceremony that since everyone comes on the island, it is nice to include both flags because individuals are “proud to be an American and proud of our POW.” Once the POW/MIA flag was attached, he told those who attended that he would like to put a POW flag at every public place on the island. Anyone who would like to help Birdwell accomplish that goal, is encouraged to make a donation to either the VFW or the American Legion for POW flags.
