Civic Association OKs planned improvements for Red’s

A presentation was made at the Greater Pine Island Civic Association meeting Tuesday night for improvements that are going to be made at Red’s Fresh Seafood House & Tavern.

Those in attendance unanimously approved the plan that was presented to them.

Brian Smith with EnSite began his presentation by explaining what Bud Locicero, the owner of Red’s, would like to do to his property.

The improvements include expanding the parking lot and gravel area on both the north and south side of the restaurant, five designated paved handicap parking stalls, as well as native landscaping – hedges and trees – along the perimeter of the site.

Smith said the proposal includes expanding the gravel with more structure type parking.

“We actually lose square footage because of the buffers,” Locicero said, adding that it will look nicer.

Smith said with the improvements, individuals will see more trees and landscaping, as well as better vehicular circulation and rainwater treatment.

Smith said Locicero wants to do the improvements in phases.

The first phase will include the northern parking lot and landscaping and then the southern parking lot and landscaping.

“The southern piece will come later and the northern will happen instantly,” Smith said after it receives final approval by the county.

The hearing date for the Windjammer RV Resort, Nov. 15, at 9 a.m., was also brought up during the short meeting last week. The hearing will be held in the Hearing Examiners Meeting Room located at 1500 Monroe St., in Fort Myers.

A developmental order was sent to the county in April of this year by Robert Smokey Smeja for his 57-acre property located at 4500 Turtle Trail Lane to change it from 302 condos of a residential multi-family space to a recreational vehicle planned development – Windjammer RV Resort – that will accommodate about 200 RV lots.

The concept plan for Windjammer RV Resort includes a 12,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art, lake-front clubhouse; heated resort-style pool with infinity edge overlooking the lake with patio dining and a hot tub; tennis courts; more than two miles of walking, biking and hiking trails with exercise stations; a lakefront health spa center with massage tables, fitness room, yoga/pilates studio and saunas; and two lakes with a beach.
