Book launching party benefits Wounded Warrior Project

Award-winning novelist Robert N. Macomber’s newest novel, “Honorable Lies,” will have its official book launching party at Woody’s Waterside Pub in St. James on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 12-7 p.m. In a tradition that goes back to the first novel in Macomber’s Honor Series, fans from around Florida and the country will enjoy a seven hour party at the pub, with non-stop live music, hog-roast, and seafood. The theme this year reflects the locale of the book: Cuba. A Cuban band and Cuban specialty cocktails will be waiting for the Wakians, his readers’ nickname for themselves, after the main character in his novels, Peter Wake. In addition, the famous Yard Dogs band is doing a special reunion show just for the party.

Each year Macomber selects a charity that will receive a donation from the proceeds of his book sales, usually choosing organizations that care for wounded troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. This year it will go to Wounded Warriors Project, a well-known charity assisting our country’s wounded men and women heal and recover their lives.

Macomber, who also does consulting work for the Department of Defense, feels strongly about the donation. “I have many friends that have served, and are still serving, over there. It’s personal with me. I think it should be for all Americans-these patriots belong to all of us.”

The author is excited about this year’s novel, his tenth. “It was absolutely fascinating to research and write this novel inside Cuba. I was led in directions I never anticipated, especially into the incredible world of Freemasonry.”

“Honorable Lies” is a spy novel set in 1888 Havana, where Cubans are struggling for their independence from Spain. Lt. Cmdr. Wake, from the Office of Naval Intelligence, has five days to find and rescue two of his Cuban spy ring, feared captured by the dreaded Spanish secret police. Macomber reports Honorable Lies has garnered rave critical praise, excellent reader reviews, and the best sales of any of his books, reaching best-seller status on amazon.com.

The author says copies of all his novels will be available, and he’ll sign hundreds of them while partying with his readers. Macomber, who supports many island charities, adds, “Make a fun day of it! Celebrate with me and get your holiday gift shopping done, then go over to the Matlacha Mariner’s Blues event in Cape Coral and enjoy their music too.”
