Matlacha Mariners thank the local community

2 min read

Recently the Matlacha Mariners hosted their annual Fishing Tourna-ment and Fish Fry in appreciation for the work the Mariners do in raising charitable funds for the Pine Island community. This year’s event had the largest turn out of new and existing members who participated in a day of fun and camaraderie. It was also the best catch in many years.

Everyone won some kind of prize but the top prize went to Greg McKee who landed the winning red fish.

The success of the event was made possible, in large part, by the generosity of the local community in helping sponsor the event. The Mariners want to give a heart felt thank you and appreciation for the following businesses, Bert’s Bar, Seven Seas Bait and Tackle, Reds Seafood Restaurant, Barnhill’s Seafood Restaurant, Olde Fish House Marina, Miceli’s Italian Restaurant, Buba’s Roadhouse, Paddle Sports Kayaks, Anglers’ Inn and Metro Scale. Please support these businesses because they support you.

In a few weeks the Matlacha Mariners will be lending a hand to their sister organization, the Matlacha Hookers for their fishing tournament to be held Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Olde Fish House Marina in Matlacha. The proceeds go the Pine Island Elementary School.

The next event for the Mariners will be the Southwest Florida Blues Festival on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the German American Club property on Pine Island Road in Cape Coral. This is a day of listening and watching some of the best blues acts touring the country. It is an open air, festival with great food, beverage and crafts. The music continues on into the evening. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blanket for a casual, relaxing and fund day of the best Blues music around.

All the proceeds from this event go directly back to the Pine Island community in support is its charitable needs and college scholarships’ for its college bound residents.
