Christmas Basket Brigade under way on islands
The Christmas Basket Brigade is under way for families and individuals of Pine Island and Matlacha. It’s an annual program sponsored by Pine Island FISH and includes the island’s churches, organizations, businesses, and a host of generous residents.
Last year, through this coordinated effort, 103 families (237 children) and 31 individuals or couples received Christmas baskets including gifts plus Winn-Dixie gift cards and bags of food provided by the Pine Island Pantry.
Those who wish to be included on this year’s list are asked to call Peg at 283-3874 or Mary Jo at 283-7862 no later than Saturday, Dec. 1 to allow time for shopping, sorting and assignment of gifts. Parents are encouraged to suggest gifts for their children, and the Brigade shoppers will do their best to accommodate those suggestions within budget limitations.
The new location for culmination of the program is Wesley Hall at the United Methodist Church. FISH appreciates their generosity!
The wrapping party will take place at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14 and distribution will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Those who wish to donate to the Brigade may do so by sending checks to P.I. FISH, P.O. Box 357, Matlacha 33993. Please write “Basket Brigade” or “Christmas” in the memo line.
For further information, call Mary Jo or Peg at the numbers shown above.
