Second fund-raiser set for Matlacha Bridge Reef Project
The second fund-raiser for the Matlacha Bridge Reef Project will be held next week featuring local art for an art auction in Bokeelia.
Tina Bush of Island Floors Inc. & Interiors said the auction will be held Friday, Oct. 5, from 5-8 p.m. at Knight’s Landing, 16499 Porto Bello St., in Bokeelia. She said Tow Boat U.S. is sponsoring the event.
“We need everybody there – come by boat or come by land and enjoy the evening,” Bush said. “We are going to have an amazing local art auction.”
No tickets are needed to attend the event, which will feature live music, raffles and the Mullet Wagon, as well as art.
Bush estimates that she will showcase up to 50 framed pieces of artwork from local artist and students from Pine Island Elementary School. The artwork will include pictures of the Matlacha Bridge from the past and present day.
“The school children all got together and did amazing artwork for this event,” she said. “It is amazing what these kids did.”

The money raised during the fund-raiser will go towards moving a portion of the old Matlacha Bridge to a new location on the southern most tip of the Novac Reef.
The idea of turning the old Matlacha Bridge into an artificial reef came to fruition the first week of July and soon turned into a non-profit organization – the Matlacha Bridge Reef Project – after Rod Mazzoli of Island Floors Inc. & Interiors determined he wanted to preserve a piece of the island’s history.
