Next month’s roster of activities at Pine Island Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

The Pine Island Library Is Not
“A Place No One Should Go,”
with Author DL Havlin,
2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13
Come visit with author and long-time Pine Island resident, DL Havlin. Havlin will discuss his award winning novels, “The Hangin’ Oak,” “September on Echo Creek,” “The Hidden Door,” and “A Place No One Should Go.” He’ll also be happy to chat about his current writing efforts, his many travels abroad (over 60 countries) and life in Lee County back in the ’40’s and ’50’s. Sponsored by The Friends of the Pine Island Library.
Book Discussion: Julia Glass’
“The Widower’s Tale”
1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25
Percy Darling is a 70-year old widower who retired from employment at Harvard’s Widener Library. He is living in an affluent town where he has donated, to a trendy preschool, the use of the barn on his expansive property. The busy activities at “Elves & Fairies” stimulate bittersweet memories of Percy’s late wife Poppy, who had housed a dance studio in that very barn, before perishing in a senseless accident 30 years earlier. The Widower’s Tale is a compelling study of an all-too-human family caught amid the pressures of modern life and the way they grew and changed over the course of a year.
