The Pine Island Dance Impact Competition Dance Team will hold its first fund-raiser, a fish fry, this weekend at Barnhill Seafood Spot in Matlacha.

The benefit is being held to raise funds for when the girls go to competition to pay for traveling expenses and costumes.

Cassie Passantino, 14, made the dance team for the second year this year. She said she really enjoyed being on the team last year because she was able to incorporate her full attitude into her dancing, along with going crazy with make-up during her performances.

“The competition was so fun,” she said.

The 1st Annual Fish Fry will be held Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The 13 girls who make up the team, range in age from 6 to 16. They will serve individuals their food along with doing a performance at 1 p.m.

Tickets, which are $10 for one fish-fry basket and beverage, can be purchased at Barnhill Seafood Spot, Pine Island Dance, Around the Clock Fitness and Stonegate Bank.

There will also be raffles and prizes during the event.

Live entertainment from Strange Arrangement will also be a part of the benefit. The band will perform “Welcome to the Jungle,” as the girls execute a routine to the song.

“I’m excited to perform ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and I’m kind of nervous to serve food too,” 8-year-old Emily Garcia said.

She said she is excited to perform the dance because the music is fast.

Riley Yoder, 7, is also excited to perform the dance routine to “Welcome to the Jungle.”

Although all three dance troupes will all perform to the same song, other performances will be had during the benefit as well.

Mea Pellicane, 9, said she is performing a duo to “My Boyfriend’s Back” and a trio to the song “Tea Party.”

‘I’m happy to perform,” she said of what she is most looking forward to during the benefit.

Nastassia Milivojevic, 13, encourages individuals to come out and watch the dance team.

“You probably never see dances like this before,” she said of their performances. “Everyone has their own creativity get a taste of creativity by watching them dance,” she said.

Milivojevic said the audience will have an opportunity to see the dancers techniques and attitude Saturday.
