Bogey: cat of the week

Bogey

Look at those chubby cheeks! It’s impossible to resist scratching them and Bogey doesn’t mind at all. He’s an island cat who was found begging for food. We don’t know what his story is, only that he is enjoying being inside, fed, taken care of and loved. (Especially the love!) Unfortunately, Bogey has two strikes against him. He is black and FIV positive. No one wants black cats. They are always the last to be chosen and the shelter is full of them! I’ve heard all kinds of silly reasons, including “they are bad luck.” Let me be the first to assure you, as the happy owner of several black cats, they are not bad luck! In fact if I were allowed to have a favorite cat, which I’m not, black cats would have that honor.

As for the FIV, it isn’t as bad as it sounds. FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a lentivirus, meaning that it progresses very slowly, gradually affecting a cat’s immune system. It is passed through blood transfusions and through serious, penetrating bite wounds (mainly by stray, intact male cats). FIV cats usually live long and healthy lives as long as they receive good care, a healthy diet and regular vet check ups. So if you can provide that and don’t mind that he is black, Bogey will love you forever!

If you would like to help us and can’t adopt a cat right now, the shelter is in desperate need of scoopable cat litter. Thanks!
