MEGHAN MCCOY Theresa Kramer, Matlacha Hookers treasurer, and Matlacha Hookers Madam DJ Ruscik accepted a $1,000 check donated by the Matlacha Mariners Ross Stornello and Carl Jervis on Aug. 13 during the Hooker’s monthly meeting at Miceli’s.

The Matlacha Mariners donated $1,000 to the Matlacha Hookers as a thank you for all that the organization does for the community.

Matlacha Mariner Ross Stornello told the Matlacha Hookers last Monday that this year they wanted to do a little more for the organization than they have in previous years.

“We wanted to donate $1,000 and hopefully cover expenses of your epic event,” Stornello said of the Hookers’ annual fishing tournament.

He said the Mariners could not do their events without the help of the Hookers, which is another reason they wanted to provide a bigger thank you than the picnics they have held for them in the past.

“We just wanted to do more,” Stornello said.

Matlacha Hookers Madam DJ Ruscik said the Matlacha Mariners went above and beyond with their donation. She said the money will be used for their tent sponsorship for the tournament.

Oct. 14 marks the 14th annual Matlacha Hookers Pine Island Elementary School Fishing Tournament Derby, which will be held at the Olde Fish House Marina in Matlacha.

Children sponsorship forms, along with more details for the adult anglers will be made available in the weeks to come.
