MEGHAN MCCOY CJ Garrett, 2, floats around the Pine Island Pool Thursday night during the 1st Annual Family Night, which was sponsored by the Greater Pine Island Kiwanis Club.

Families flowed into the Pine Island Pool Thursday night to take advantage of free food, drinks and admission during the 1st Annual Family Night, which was made possible by the Greater Pine Island Kiwanis Club.

Tonya Player, Greater Pine Island Kiwanis Club member, said the club always wants to do something for the kids and a pool party seemed like a good idea.

“An end to the summer with a party at the pool what is better than that,” Player said.

The Kiwanis provided hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, potato chips and drinks for all those who attended the free event.

“I think it will be an annual thing,” she said about Family Night.

The doors at the pool were open from 5-9 p.m. Youngsters took turns jumping off the diving board, sliding down one of the two slides, as well as swimming and hanging out with friends during the party. Parents also joined in on the fun sitting alongside the pool, chatting, as well as hanging out in the water with their kids.

Bryan Fearn heard about the Family Night a couple days before the event took place and decided to attend with his family.

“No better way to wear out the kids than to have them swim until 9:00,” he said.

The family, which lives in northwest Cape Coral, has been visiting the pool for the past five years.

“I love it,” Fearn said of the pool. “Every year we get passes.”

He said they have birthday parties at the Pine Island Pool all the time because it is affordable to rent. Fearn said he is planning on having one last blowout party before the kids have to start school in two weeks.

Pine Island Pool Aquatic Supervisor Sandy Reynolds said she wanted to thank everyone who came out to the event to make it such a huge success.

“Hopefully, it will become an annual event,” she said.
