Youngsters enjoy last family storytime of the summer
Youngsters crawled through a tunnel that led them into an oversized tent at the Pine Island Library Thursday morning to be a part of the last family storytime for the summer.
Tonya Player, youth services library associate for the Pine Island Public Library was dressed in her pink hearted pajamas due to the theme of storytime – pajama party. Some of the youngsters who attended brought their favorite stuffed animal while wearing their pajamas.
“I made a tent for the last family storytime of the summer,” Player said before reading the kids a few of her favorite bedtime stories.
The kids also had the opportunity to listen to music, along with blowing bubbles outdoors and making crafts inside the tent.
The family storytime will begin again in August and will be held every Thursday at 11 a.m. Player said the program takes place for six weeks before taking a three-week break.
Although the number of kids that attend the weekly storytime varies each week, Player said they always have a good time.
The July elementary kids programs at the library include “Night Shivers” Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m.; “Star Stories” by Katie Adams Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m., and “Creatures of the Night” by the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge July 20, at 11 a.m.
Other activities at the Pine Island Library include balloon sculpting Wednesday, July 11, at 6 p.m. Youngsters will have the opportunity to learn how to make a creative balloon masterpiece from an expert. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Pine Island Library.
On Wednesday, July 18, the library will host “Duct Tape Craft” at 6 p.m. Youngsters will have the opportunity to create creatures of the night using duct tape.
An “Acting Workshop” will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 6 p.m. The workshop will include storytelling with light and shadow puppets. The kids will create their own myth, along with ghost writing that will be turned into a skit.
The last program in July is the “End of Summer Party and Auction” Saturday, July 28, at 2 p.m. Teenagers are asked to bring their teen bucks to the library from all of their reading and watching to participate in an auction for cool prizes.
