Museum passes available at the Pine Island Library
The Pine Island Library now has two C’mon Access Passes available for check-out. Each of these museum passes allows free admission for four to the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples. The mission of C’mon is “To provide an exciting, inspiring environment where children and their families play, learn and dream together.” We are getting feedback that this is a wonderful experience for young children or grandchildren.
The passes work like this: Up to four people may use the pass but this group must include at least one adult and one child. Additional guests get in for $10 apiece. Use your library card to check out the pass. It must be used within seven days. You can put a pass on hold for pick-up at the library, but you cannot request a specific date. You do not have to return the pass to the library and there are no overdue charges. If you have any questions about this great new opportunity, please contact a staff member at the library.
The Summer Reading Program is moving right along. Our patrons from kindergarten to 5th grade are enjoying “Dream Big Read!” This includes programs, prizes, and fun. Programs are on Fridays at 11 a.m. Our next event is June 29 when Kaye Byrnes will present “Dreaming of Stories.”
The Teen Summer Reading Program is “Own the Night.” It includes gaming, crafts, dance, and more. Programs are on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. The next event is “Ghost Stories” on June 27. Doug Alderson will present spooky stories and mysteries that will entertain and teach about Florida history and the environment. By reading books, writing reviews, and attending programs, teens can earn “Teen Bucks” to be used at the End of Summer Party & Auction at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Please encourage your youngsters to get in the library, read, and join in the fun!
Now is a good time to pick up some summer reading. Our shelves are full so we have a good selection. Upcoming titles that you can get on the waiting list for include James Patterson’s “Zoo,” Kathy Reichs’ “Bones are Forever,” and W.E.B. Griffiths’ “The Spymaster.”
Mark your calendar for these future events. The Friends’ Summer Book sale will be at the library from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 7. The Pine Island Genealogy Group will meet here from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11. And the following Wednesday, July 18 from 1-3 p.m., Carol Troup will demonstrate Family Tree Maker, a family history software. Genealogy is a fascinating subject. Researching your family tree can be enjoyable and rewarding.
Next time you are near Pine Island Center swing by the library and say hello. We’re at 10700 Russell Road NW and are open Tuesday through Saturday. Or you can contact us at 533-4350. See you soon!
