Matlacha Hookers begin annual school supply drive

2 min read

School is out! That means the Matlacha Hookers begin their summer fund-raiser – the annual school supply drive and once again they are counting on the generosity of the island residents.

“There are still many families on Pine Island struggling to make ends meet, so we want to pool our resources and help out,’ Hooker Board Member Cindee Tolliver said.

With the price of gasoline, food, and school clothes, one thing families have difficulty with is making sure their kids have the needed school supplies to help them become successful students. The Matlacha Hookers want to ease that burden.

The following is a list of suggested items, supplied by our island teachers, that the children may need on entering Pine Island Elementary School: backpacks (no wheels); pencil boxes; scissors (blunt tip); #2 pencils; erasers (large pink rectangular); vap erasers; Whiteboard markers (fine tip); glue sticks; colored pencils; pens (red, blue, black); red pencils with erasers; Elmer’s glue; loose leaf paper (wide ruled); marbled composition books; spiral notebooks (all sizes); rulers; Crayola crayons; Crayola markers; yellow hi-lighters; 3 x 5 index cards; 3 Ring binder/2 inch; 3 Ring binder/1 inch; expo markers/dry eraser; Kleenix with aloe/lotion; pocket folders (all colors); fun stickers; towels; handiwipes/Lysol Disinfectants; SCOTCH tape and Ziplock bags (all sizes).

Thanks to the cooperation of many island businesses, this year, finding a location to drop off your donated school supplies will be easier than ever. The following is a list of drop-off locations in Matlacha, Center, St. James and Bokeelia: Matlacha Post Office; Trader’s Hitching Post; Sandy Hook Restaurant; Pine Island Community Church; Pine Island Methodist Church; Fisher’s of Men Lutheran Church; Capital Bank; Wells Fargo Bank; Bank of America; Stonegate Bank; Lilly’s Deli; Pine Island Library; The Dollar Store; Elks; Waterfront Restaurant; Woody’s Restaurant; Low Key Tiki;; American Legion; Moose; Island Grill; Winn-Dixie; Lazy Flamingo and Miraculous Medal Catholic Church.

The collection boxes have been distributed to each of these locations and the scheduled final pickup will be August 1.
