Clothes for Kids

2 min read

It’s time for the 13th annual drive to provide clothes for children whose parents have difficulty in providing new clothes for school. The program falls under the umbrella of the FISH Basket Brigade and the goal is to assure that all Pine Island and Matlacha students have new outfits for their first two days of school.

Last year 139 youngsters proudly wore their new attire, thanks to the generosity of fellow Pine Islanders, most of whom “adopted” the participants and bought clothes for a specific child (or two or three or more) and others who made cash donations so that FISH shoppers could purchase the items.

We’re compiling a list of children by age, gender and size and will match the clothes to the kids, although only their first names will be divulged. Those who wish to “adopt” will be provided that information and will be requested to buy two tops, two pants, shorts or skirts, and a package of underwear.

Additionally, FISH will provide a $20 Payless Shoe Source gift card for each child. If Eagle readers are aware of children who should be included on the list, please call Peg Harmon or 283-3874 or Mary Jo Roane at 283-7862. The cut-off date to place kids on the list is Friday, July 27.

The drop-off point for clothes is Fire Station Number One at Pine Island Center. For those who prefer to give a monetary contribution, tax-deductible donations may be sent to Pine Island FISH, P.O. Box 357, Matlacha 33993, indicating “Clothes for Kids” in the memo line.

School begins on Wednesday, August 8 this year so we’re requesting that all clothes be available not later than July 31 for delivery.

For further information call Mary Jo or Peg at the numbers shown above.
