Quilts R Us donates creations to FISH for the holidays

A group of approximately 30 women hand quilted 25 quilts throughout the year that were recently donated to Fellow Islanders Sending Help for the little ones this holiday season.
Two women, who decided they wanted to start a quilt club for those in the community, formed Quilts R Us almost 20 years ago. The women still gather at the Matlacha Community Center all these years later once a week.
Pauline Sanborn, who was one of the original members, said after the club was formed people started joining, which eventually grew to quite a few members.
She said they began donating quilts that the members created to FISH more than 15 years ago to help those in the community.
President Dolores Ambrose said she has enjoyed making the quilts for FISH over the years.
“I feel like we are doing something to help the little ones,” she said.
Some of the members contributed four or five quilts that were donated to FISH this year. Member Alice Tribbey said every woman in the club provided a helping hand in the efforts of making the quilts for FISH.
The club meets every Tuesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Matlacha Community Center located at 4577 Pine Island Road. Members are always encouraged to join the club, which provides a laid back atmosphere for all those who attend.
