The Pine Island Elementary School’s Christmas tree shone brightly on the Christmas Tree Trail on opening night of the Edison/Ford Holiday Night Lights celebration.

The approximately five foot tree, complete with mini lights, was provided by the Edison/Ford Estates.

Art teacher Gloria Van Duser and her students fashioned ornaments out of lightbulbs which hung upside down from branches and as little hot air balloons complete with gondolas. Using large pinecones, the students made little snowmen and multicolored beads were strung on wire and shaped into stars. Finishing touches of sparkling white bows enhanced the sparkle of the many faux jewels and glitter on many of the ornaments.

“This is the first year we have had a tree at the Holiday Night Lights event,” said Van Duser. “I decorated the tree on Sunday morning, then we had a storm, so I went back on Monday fearing some of the ornaments might have been damaged but it was in perfect shape.”

The celebration at the Edison/Ford Estates runs through Dec. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. nightly except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
