Keepsakes offers ‘pretties’

Former title agent and bartender Angel Hill has just opened a new business called Keepsakes at 4120 Pine Island Rd. in Matlacha. The small shop has an eclectic assortment of what she calls “pretties.”
Scouting estate sales and auctions throughout Florida and into Georgia, Hill has items ranging in price from $1 to $1,000. Shoppers may find antiques, costume jewelry and other accessories, or Murano glass. All of the merchandise is displayed on pieces of furniture that are also for sale.
Hill’s background as a bartender shows in her willingness to offer hospitality to browsers.
“I always have coffee and chai tea to serve people,” she said.
So far, she has drawn interest from patients of the doctor next door who spotted something new and came in to take a look around.
Originally from Michigan, Hill now lives in Cape Coral. Her son and daughter-in-law are also partners in the business and a separate concessions business. She and her husband considered opening their store in the Cape or in Fort Myers but decided on Matlacha.
“The people are so friendly and welcoming,” she said. “It’s a small town atmosphere.”
Keepsakes will be open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hill will stay open a little longer on Art Nights.
