‘American Soldier’ penned by young islander

Aliyah Jackson had learned the importance of Veterans’ Day from her parents and in her classes at Pine Island Elementary School. She knew there would be a special veterans thank you ceremony on Nov. 10 and wanted to do something special.
“She did this all on her own,” said Aliyah’s father, Aaron Jackson. “We were so proud of her when she told us that she wanted to write a poem.”
When asked what motivated her to write her poem entitled “American Soldier,” Aliyah said, “I think the veterans deserve to be thanked. They help us have pride in our country.”
Aliyah’s sister, Briana, was Student of the Year at Pine Island Elementary School in 2009 when she was a fourth-grader.
When asked what he thought contributed to his daughters’ exceptionalism, Jackson said, “We believe it all begins at home. We do things as a family, including attending church every week. But we appreciate what Principal Mazolli is doing here to reinforce our values and our hopes for our daughters’ futures.”
American Soldier
Do you ever ponder what they do for us?
For our country?
Tough, selfless, courageous American soldiers
Fight for our lives
Fight just for us
Fight for our freedoms.
They save our lives from other people who want to hurt us and take our lives away.
They help people in other countries who can’t help themselves.
They spend time away from their families so we can spend time with ours.
American SoldierAmerican Hero!!!
Thank you!
