‘Still Golden’ Anniversary Celebration set at PI Elementary
Pine Island Elementary School will celebrate a big milestone on Friday, Nov. 18.
“This is the 50th anniversary of our outstanding island school,” said Principal Rob Mazolli. “That’s cause for a big celebration and that is just what we are planning.”
Former students and staff are invited to attend the festivities, which include music and refreshments, a photo presentation and a tour of the school.
“This campus has come a long way in 50 years. While we have had past anniversary celebrations which were well attended, we expect a lot of former students and staff who did not attend those to come out for the ‘Still Golden’ celebration,” the principal said. “I think they will be impressed with today’s campus.
“Back when some of them were here, the classrooms had little more than desks, chairs and a chalkboard – maybe a projector. Now we are fortunate enough to have audio and video equipment, computers, terrific science equipment and many more state of the art teaching aids,” Mazolli proudly points out. “I bet a lot of the visitors won’t recognize the place.”
The celebration begins at 2 p.m. with a student celebration in the pavilion and extends until 7 p.m..
A campus open house is scheduled from 4-5 p.m.
