Sacred Passages offers massage therapy and more
Pine Islanders who are stressed out or who have a bad habit they’d like to break may want to visit Sacred Passages at 4547 Pine Island Road, Unit C, in Matlacha, near the post office.
Owner Denise Grinnan opened her establishment last November or December and has been building a clientele of repeat business in massage therapy. Moving into the upcoming season, she’d like to increase the number of her hypnotherapy clients, too. She can address weight loss, smoking cessation and even past life regression.
Grinnan has been a nurse for more than 30 years. She had experience primarily in pediatric oncology. It was in comforting her young patients and their families that she began to think in a more holistic way.
“I learned a lot spiritually,” she said of her oncology days.
In New Jersey where she then lived, a holistic approach was more accepted, she feels, than it is in Florida. She recalls one patient who had continued pain after delivering a baby. Medications were not giving the woman any relief. Grinnan was called in and offered touch therapy. The woman felt better almost instantly, she said.
Grinnan notes that another reason for lack of acceptance of her favored methods is because they are generally not covered by insurance.
Grinnan employs a variety of modalities to help people to feel better: Reiki, touch therapy and Jin Shin Jyutsu. The latter is similar to acupuncture but minus the needles. She carefully assesses new clients to see where energy is trapped in their bodies.
“We are all energy,” Grinnan said.
Another form of energy, sound, is released during crystal singing bowl meditations held at the shop on Saturdays. Sacred Passages also stocks a variety of crystals and other related products.
