Welcome home soldier
Joe and Laura Hernandez new Pine Island residents are welcoming home their son U.S. Army Capt. Matthew Hernandez on Tuesday, July 6.
Recently promoted Capt. Hernandez returned fro m the Argandab River Valley in Afghanistan. There he served as an Infantry Platoon Leader with the 2-508 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.
Capt. Hernandez unit sustained casualties during their deployment where he was awarded a Bronze Star for his actions.
His new assignment is with the 3rd Infantry Division, “The Old Guard” in Washington, DC.
There his position will place him at arms length from the President at times.
Capt. Hernandez is a 2008 West Point graduate who played Army Football for the Black Knights.
