The Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida just became incorporated yet it is embarking upon its 50th season. The group, the former Southwest Florida Symphony Chorus, is now an independent entity with the same dedicated singers who have long been providing concerts in the area. Incorporation approval for the organization as a not-for-profit entity by the State of Florida came through on May 31, 2011. Application to the IRS for 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Status is proceeding on schedule.

The Symphonic Chorale also has retained its conductor, Timothy McDonnell. McDonnell is the Music Department Chair at Ave Maria University and has a wealth of choral experience having previously led choirs in the Vatican.

The Symphonic Chorale plans an exciting season beginning in December with its annual performance of Handel’s Messiah in partnership with the Southwest Florida Symphony. This concert is believed to be the first time Messiah has been sung in Barbara B. Mann Hall. An additional concert with the Symphony will occur in January 2012. Other collaborations are in the planning stages.

The Symphonic Chorale also will hold a day-long community outreach event in August at the Alliance for the Arts.
