Entries sought for MangoMania food contests
A popular event returns to this year’s MangoMania Tropical Fruit Festival — the “food contests.” Amateur cooks/chefs and restaurants alike are encouraged to enter the contests — each item entered MUST have mango in the recipe.
In the individual (non-professional) division, entries can be submitted in the following categories: Mango Bread (one loaf), Mango Salsa/Relish/Chutney (one pint jar), Mango Cookies/Dessert (4 cookies or 2 servings dessert), Mango Preserves/Jams/Jellies (1 pint jar), Mango Smoothies (2 servings), Mango Dressing/Marinade (1 bottle).
In the professional/restaurant division, entries may be submitted in the following categories: Mango Appetizer (2 servings), Mango Entrée (1 plate), Mango Dessert (2 servings).
Multiple entries may be submitted for each division, and in each category. Entry forms are available at the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, or on line at www.floridascreativecoast.com/MMcontests.html. Entry forms must be delivered or faxed to the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce by 3 p.m., Friday, July 29. Entries must be at the MangoMania Festival Food Judging area by 10 a.m., Saturday, July 30.
All entries will be assigned a number for judging; the judges will not know the identities of those who submit the entries. If your entry requires chilling or heating, please bring a cooler or warming tray marked with your name.
There is no fee for entering the food contests — all of the area’s creative cooks and chefs are urged to “step up to the plate” with their favorite mango dish. If you have any questions, contact the MangoMania “hot line” at 283-4842.
MangoMania Tropical Fruit Festival is July 30 and 31, at the German American Club, 2101 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.
