Letter Carrier Food Drive to benefit Pine Islanders

1 min read

For the last 19 years, employees and volunteers of the United States Postal Service have dedicated a day to help feed the hungry throughout Lee County.

Residents are asked to place non-perishable food items at residential mailboxes to be collected Saturday, May 14. Donations collected in Pine Island will go directly to feed those in need on the island through the Pine Island Food Pantry.

“We again will be counting on volunteers to assist postal carriers in collecting the food left by our generous neighbors this year,” said pantry volunteer Dave Gruesser. “With the help of our volunteers, the food will be collected and sorted, then later distributed to assist families and individuals on the island.”

The Pine Island Food Pantry also will accept other items, including paper products, personal hygiene items, pet food, disposable diapers, laundry detergent and any other items typically purchased at the grocery store.

Those who are unable to leave food items at the mailbox may bring donations directly to the Food Pantry, located at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, during regular operating hours.

The Pine Island Food Pantry is open Monday-Thursday, from 9-11 a.m.
