Cape Coral toll plaza reconstruction begins this week
The demolition and reconstruction of the Cape Coral toll plaza begins this week. The Cape Coral toll plaza will be reconstructed to provide free flowing eastbound traffic. Now that Lee County has converted the toll plaza to one-way tolling, the booths, coin machines and toll tag readers in the eastbound lanes are no longer necessary.
The two toll lanes on the left will be open for LeeWay and SunPass transponder users only. There will not be a concrete barrier between the two left lanes, allowing motorists to continue travelling at normal, safe, operational speed of 45 mph. There will be three attended lanes for those paying with cash in the middle, and the far right lane will provide another lane for LeeWay/SunPass customers.
Beginning May 16, the two left hand lanes for westbound traffic will be closed and the eastbound lanes will be shifted north for approximately 30 days. Delays and backups are expected during construction. Motorists are asked to pay attention to the electronic message boards and warnings of lane closures/delays.
