MARIANNE PATON Celebrating the arts in Matlacha and on Pine Island, visitors to the area enjoyed three days of art related festivities including the annual Pine Island Art Association Show and Sale.

Last weekend, Matlacha galleries and artists joined together to celebrate the biggest weekend dedicated to the arts on the island. Residents were treated to the annual Pine Island Art Association Show and Sale, Art in the Heart of Matlacha and Art Night all rolled up into one weekend-long event. In the Matlacha Community Center, both professional and novice artists displayed more than 100 works of art for visitors to enjoy and perhaps purchase on both Saturday and Sunday.

Also during the weekend, WildChild Gallery hosted more than a dozen seasoned artists from a wide variety of genres in the garden area of the gallery. Art in the Heart of Matlacha provides visitors with an opportunity to see artists at work and get a few tips on everything from jewelry making to portrait painting.

Each month during the winter season, Art Night also is celebrated and, from Friday evening through the rest of the weekend, galleries in Matlacha as well as on Pine Island, opened their doors for extended hours. During the Feb. 11, weekend, galleries hosted artists’ openings, offered visitors refreshments as they traveled from gallery to gallery, and many provided demonstrations and musical entertainment.
