Spring was in the air last weekend as hundreds of gardening enthusiasts visited this year’s Garden Gala sponsored by the Pine Island Garden Club.

Visitors to the event were greeted with a cloudless spring-like day at the island center where there could be found numerous booths filled with nearly everything for enjoying the outdoors. From lawn decorations to native plants, those attending could not only purchase a well established bedding plant, but also could learn how to best care for them with the guidance offered by experts.

“We are very pleased with this year’s turnout and as we had anticipated, this year was bigger and better than ever,” said Garden Club member and event organizer, Margie Van Derkruik. “We could not have hoped for better weather and everyone who has approached me has said how much they enjoyed the displays and the free seminars, but also the variety of vendors and the festive atmosphere.”

All proceeds from the Garden Club’s annual Garden Gala benefit numerous island charities.
